The Impact of the Minimum Ductility Requirement in Automotive Castings on the Carbon Dioxide Footprint throughout the Useful Life of an Electric Car

There is a trend in the automotive producers to require that foundries use more secondary aluminum alloy ingots reduce CO2 footprint of car production. The merits this have been investigated study. Results shown requiring while simultaneously reducing elongation requirement die castings counterproductive, i.e., increases over its useful life by not taking advantage weight reduction possible. It recommended (i) improve their melt handling capabilities and minimize entrainment damage made melting casting process chain, (ii) automobile increasing requirements on elongation, secure reduced CO2-footprint designs, materials usage life-cycle cars.
